One of the most popular fruits, Mango is known to be the 'King of Fruits' because of its rich and aromatic flavor. Benishan is a mango variety produced in Banaganapalle of Kurnool district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
Nutritional values - Mango is low in calories but full of nutrients. It is an excellent source of flavonoids like β-carotene, α-carotene, and β-cryptoxanthin, vitamins like A, B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), B5 (Pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (Folate), K (potassium), C (ascorbic acid) and Vit E. It is also a good source of minerals like manganese and magnesium, high in antioxidants like mangiferin, catechins, anthocyanins and many more.
Health benefits - It helps fight cancer, heart disease and eye problems. keeps you hydrated, quenches thirst and boosts energy/immunity. But not suitable for weight watchers because of its high sugar level content. In the Kitchen - Both sour and sweet mangoes are used in cuisine. Sour, unripe mangoes are made into pickles or eaten raw with salt chilli or soy sauce. They are also made into dal. Both in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, unripe mangoes along with mustard are made into a pickle called Avakaya. Add it to smoothies, dice it and add to salsas or salads, slice it and serve it along with other tropical fruits.
